How can you recognise cataracts?

Choosing the right intraocular lens

• Monofocal lenses – Clear vision at one distance, usually far away. This is the standard lens option.
• Multifocal lenses – Designed to provide distance and near vision and reduce dependence on glasses.

• Toric lenses – Suitable for patients with astigmatism.

Choosing the right lens can make a significant difference to everyday activities such as driving, reading, sport and computer work, and may reduce dependence on glasses.

Who may be suitable for lens replacement?

• People with a high prescription who are not suitable for laser eye surgery
• People over 45 with presbyopia who need reading glasses

Eyelid surgery

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons to rejuvenate the eye area, or for medical reasons, such as removing excess skin that affects vision.

When may eyelid surgery be suitable?

The procedure should always be discussed with a plastic surgeon in advance. It may be considered for the following concerns:

• Excess skin on the upper eyelids that may interfere with vision.
• Protruding fat that causes puffiness and bags under the eyes.
• Sagging skin on the lower eyelids, often accompanied by wrinkles.
• An eye area that appears tired or older than the person’s overall age and appearance.
